| Resumo | The development of economic activities on a large scale on the resources of the Amazon has increased the rate of deforestation, the main concentration of deforestation is the arc of deforestation a strip along the southern and eastern edges of the forest. Located south of Pará, the municipality of Sao Felix do Xingu is one of the main leaders of deforestation in the Amazon region, its high deforestation rate stands because of development of the logging and cattle raising. The objective of this study is to analyze the deforestation of São Felix do Xingu, based on PRODES data between the years 2000 and 2014, to contribute to regional studies in the Amazon deforestation mapping issue. Sao Felix do Xingu has a total of 17,686.2 km² of deforested area until 2014, despite a significant reduction in the growth of annual deforestation in this area, the rate is quite high. The monitoring measures and containing deforestation in the Amazon are very important tools for planning and regional management. Thus, one can think of the Amazon with social and environmental responsibility with such challenges, the reduction of deforestation, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. |
